Nearly 15 years ago while my community’s leaders were preoccupied with politics and infighting, our high school dropout rate was greater than 50%. Early on I became a student activist, at the table with community and district leaders fighting for a better education. And when my district needed crucial funding to rebuild our dilapidated schools, I co-founded & co-led KIDS FIRST, a 501(c)4. We successfully led the campaign to secure the passage of a $78 million bond initiative; the first to pass in my community in more than 40 years, despite many efforts to try.
I attended Harvard University and found my home at the Phillips Brooks House Association, a student-led non-profit with the dual mission of fighting for social justice and developing servant leaders. There I learned how to lead a multi-million dollar state-based non-profit organization and honed my management and organizational design skills. After my time as a student leader, I went on to work there professionally, coaching and developing the next generation.
Ready for my next step, I became a member of the uAspire team. uAspire is a national college access and success non-profit organization hyper-focused on college affordability. I started as a founding member of the national training team and led the creation and growth of the operations, marketing, and communications needed to train practitioners across the country. I held a variety of roles during my tenure with uAspire and had a direct role in growing the organization from a small state-based non-profit to a national organization poised to create tremendous change. In my time there I elevated diversity, equity, and inclusion work to a top priority, and as the first Chief Talent Officer, leveraged organizational design principles to create a strategic talent function and build an organizational environment in which everyone could thrive.
I have always been propelled by the belief that we can make the world a better place, and now, I want to take what I’ve learned to help you do just that. In an era of constant change, our best shot at success is through putting our people first.
Let’s explore how we can work together!
